Glyn Postlethwaite:

Hi Dave,

We live in Watford Herts. I would love to meet you but it's very difficult for me as Bryan my husband is quite frail and I can't leave him for longer than a couple of hours. My email is:
glynmpos@gmail.com
I don't look at emails every day but usually twice a week.
We had a family holiday in May staying at Peasmarsh near Rye. We visited Sedlescombe, westfield, Brede and Guestling. Really interesting.

Regards,

Glyn

Dave Creed:

Hi Glyn,

I wonder where you live, are you local? I'm in Bexhill. I was thinking that we could get a better contact by direct email. If you're local we could meet up for a coffee sometime.

Best wishes,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for yours.

What a tragedy - those were cruel times. I guess it must be Thomas bapt. 26.02.1807, buried Guestling o6.01.1832.
son of Thomas and Sarah (nee Gain). They are not from our branch of the Buffards but are descended from William King and Anne Bovis.

Hi Glynn,

Do you know about Thomas Buffard, hanged at Horsham 1832/3, for arson, buried Guestling. It eventually came out that he was innocent.

Pauline Devlia:

Hi,

Thomas was my great, great, great grandfather.

I believe he was the son of Benjamin Gain and Elizabeth Davis. Benjamin was born around 1732, Brede. Baptised 6/10/1732. Died 17/6/1819 at brede. Benjamin married Elisabeth davies, born 1740 at brede on 19/6/1769. Records are difficult to follow but I believe he may have married again to Susan Ellis on 25/12/1787 at Brede.

Glyn Postlethwaite:

Hi Debbie,

My earliest date is 8th Oct 1770 when John Watson married Anne Gutsell. Their daughter Mercy Watson was baptized 6th December 1778. She married Thomas Gain on 15th August 1802. They had 7 children including James, baptized 13th December 1807. Mercy died aged 39 and was buried on 8th April 1818. Thomas Gain was born 1769 or 1770, died aged 80 and was buried 6th Dec 1850.
Hope this helps!

Regards,

Glyn

Glyn Postlethwaite:

Hi Debbie,

James Gain baptized in 1807 was the brother of Mercy Gain baptized in 1802. They were part of the family of Thomas Gain and his wife Mercy nee Watson. Mercy Gain married John Stone in 1829 and they were my great great grandparents. I have no more info. on James Gain who may be the same as your James William Gain (or maybe not).
