James William Gain Family Research

I am seeking information on my Great Great Grandfather James William Gain and his parents. He married Matilda Sargent in Battle on April 3, 1836. It’s possible his father was Thomas Gain and his mother was Mercy Watson. I’m not sure of his birthdate. Possibly appox 1807 or 1808. Can anyone confirm that Thomas and Mercy were his parents or any other connections?

Thank you for your help!

    Hi Debbie,

James Gain baptized in 1807 was the brother of Mercy Gain baptized in 1802. They were part of the family of Thomas Gain and his wife Mercy nee Watson. Mercy Gain married John Stone in 1829 and they were my great great grandparents. I have no more info. on James Gain who may be the same as your James William Gain (or maybe not).

    Hi Debbie,

My earliest date is 8th Oct 1770 when John Watson married Anne Gutsell. Their daughter Mercy Watson was baptized 6th December 1778. She married Thomas Gain on 15th August 1802. They had 7 children including James, baptized 13th December 1807. Mercy died aged 39 and was buried on 8th April 1818. Thomas Gain was born 1769 or 1770, died aged 80 and was buried 6th Dec 1850.
    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    Glyn

    Hi,

Thomas was my great, great, great grandfather.

I believe he was the son of Benjamin Gain and Elizabeth Davis. Benjamin was born around 1732, Brede. Baptised 6/10/1732. Died 17/6/1819 at brede. Benjamin married Elisabeth davies, born 1740 at brede on 19/6/1769. Records are difficult to follow but I believe he may have married again to Susan Ellis on 25/12/1787 at Brede.
